Dr. Sylvia Earle — Wow!

I was excited to meet with Dr. Sylvia Alice Earle during the AZA (Association for Zoos and Aquariums) conference in Long Beach, CA . Dr. Earle is a renowned oceanographer, marine biologist, research scientist, lecturer, author and adventurer. She is dedicated to protecting the ocean from climate change, habitat destruction, pollution and many other threats to the ocean.

Dr. Earle is also the founder of Mission Blue, a worldwide alliance to inspire and promote public awareness, access and support for a global network of protected ocean areas.

Her optimism in seeing what is possible regarding conservation is inspiring. She believes that experiences create long-lasting changes for the better. Not everyone has the resources to go out into the world to make a change, but visiting local zoos and aquariums can provide the engagement to spark caring and action. Dr. Earle advocates, “Knowing is the key to caring, and with caring there is hope that people can be motivated to take positive actions.” I couldn’t agree more!
