The Robert and Lorraine Holt Educational Endowment

Robert and Lorraine Holt enjoyed 70 years together and created a family that extended beyond their four biological daughters. They embraced anyone who needed some lunch, a helping hand or a home. Their faith in God was central to their lives as active members in the Presbyterian Church and then later the Methodist Church when their home church closed.

Both were active members in their community and volunteered in any capacity that uplifted people and educated children. Bob was a 4-H Leader, opening his garage to hundreds of children to learn the wonders of electricity. Lorraine supported the PTA, Camp Fire Girls and was a band booster. Bob served on the Library Board for decades because they both believed in the importance of access to a public library, especially in a small town.

Bob was an electrical engineer and a graduate of San Diego State University. After raising four daughters, Lorraine went back to college to receive her teaching credential from San Diego State. They set the stage for twelve, and counting, of their descendants to graduate from SDSU.

Education was important to Bob and Lorraine and their Endowment will allow future generations to attend college. Volunteerism and participation in their community was also a key value. The Robert and Lorraine Holt Educational Endowment will provide opportunities for people to experience and learn in a variety of aspects to improve the local community and the greater world. Religious values were at the core of their lives and their Endowment will encourage and support church growth as we work to discover how to bring more people to know and experience the love of God.

Robert and Lorraine Holt were part of the greatest generation. Bob was a D-Day Veteran whose unit helped liberate several concentration camps. During the war he saw poverty, hunger and destruction that lead to a life of environmental conservation. He recycled and up-cycled before it was cool. Solar water-heating panels were installed on their home in the early 70s. Caring for the environment and the people who lived on it was part of the fabric of Robert and Lorraine Holt’s lives.

The Robert and Lorraine Holt Educational Endowment shares the love of God and the belief that everything can be saved. No life should be wasted. There is redemption, recovery and restoration for people and our planet.
